Still a long way to go, but it's getting there

Well, it's taken a few decades but finally the women get to finish on the Champs-Eylsees. Girls get some of the glory

Who knows maybe the sponsors will be surprised how popular a bunch of uber fit girls in skintight lycra will be!

It seems that the argument around women's sport is completely circular  - nobody watches it because it's not offered on any any mainstream media. Unless they're particularly scantily clad that is.

Here's hoping that this trend continues getting stronger!

Century ride of a different sort

You've probably seen the story floating around of the 100 year old cyclist who set his speed record -well he's out to break his own record :-) Breaking it again!

I guess if I could still ride at that age, I'd be pretty satisfied with breaking my own record as many times as possible!

This also reminds me of a guy I met on a new years day ride - he was 76 and wanted to get the jump on his arch competitor at the local criterion (who was 83!). It really boils down to the saying: you don't get old and stop moving - you stop moving and get old.

and for some further inspiration: Check this out

Ok, so I think it's time that I slow down, especially on that particular corner when it's wet.

That's the advice I should have given myself yesterday - it would have saved me a bit of skin and a fair bit of swelling.

Oh well, you live, you learn and I hope that I've learnt this lesson well enough that it doesn't get presented to me again....

Victim blaming - who does it help?

Good ol' London leading the way - why is the reaction to more cyclists dying on the road an operation to fine the cyclists?

I'm a bit of a stickler for obeying the road rules on a bike as I see myself as a bit of an ambassador, but from what I've read, there weren't many cyclists breaking the rules who were getting crushed.

Will they be issuing tickets if you ride anywhere but on one of the Sky Paths next?

London "Skycycle" - Why exactly???

Not really sure why this is seen as the way to go. Other cities that have spent decades encouraging cycling don't seem to feel the need to have sky bound paths. See here

The best practice has to have some elements of practicality - this smells a little like the Simpson's monorail to me :-)
